How often should I replace the impeller of my raw water pump?

Can I use an impeller from a different manufacturer as a replacement?
Generally yes, provided the dimensions and material match the manufacturer's specifications. Carefully check the outer diameter, width, and number of blades – even small deviations can reduce cooling performance or damage the housing.
What happens if the raw water pump runs dry for a short time?
