Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- Can I simply integrate my new chartplotter into an existing NMEA 2000 network?
- Generally yes, provided the device supports NMEA 2000. You connect it to the existing backbone via a T-connector and power it. Pay attention to the maximum number of devices in the network and ensure that backbone terminators are correctly set.
- Which chart data works on my plotter?
- That depends on the manufacturer – common formats are Navionics, C-MAP, and proprietary charts. Before purchasing, check which format your device accepts, as charts are generally not transferable between different systems.
- How large should the display be at a minimum to remain easily readable in the cockpit?
- As a rough guide: From about 7 inches, a chart can be displayed with sufficient context without constantly having to zoom. More crucial than the pure size, however, is the brightness of the display – at least 1000 cd per square meter is considered practical for outdoor use.
- Do I have to remove the chartplotter for the winter, or can it stay on board?
- Permanently installed devices can generally remain on board if the berth is dry and frost-free. Disconnect the power supply, clean salt residue from the touchscreen, and protect the display with a UV-resistant cover to prevent yellowing.
