Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- Can I easily integrate a wind sensor into my existing navigation system?
- That depends on the protocol. Many modern wind sensors speak NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000 – check which standard your chartplotter or display supports before you buy. An NMEA 2000 network can be easily expanded with a T-connector, while NMEA 0183 devices require a free input.
- What is the maximum cable length from the masthead sensor to the display?
- This is device-dependent and can be found in the technical specifications of the respective manufacturer. As a rough guideline: the longer the cable, the more important the correct cross-section is to avoid voltage drop and signal loss. When in doubt, consult the manufacturer or the product data.
- What is the difference between a cup anemometer and an ultrasonic wind sensor?
- Cup devices have rotating parts that can jam due to ice or heavy fouling, but they are inexpensive and proven over time. Ultrasonic sensors have no moving parts, are more robust in continuous operation, and require less maintenance – however, the purchase price is higher.
- Do I have to remove the wind sensor from the mast before winter storage?
- This is not strictly necessary, but it makes sense if you are lowering the mast anyway. In any case, check the connectors for corrosion and seal them if necessary. You should test cup anemometers for smooth operation and lightly maintain them according to the manufacturer's instructions.
