Where can I find the serial number of my Volvo Penta engine?
The type plate is usually located on the side of the engine block, and on sterndrives, additionally on the drive unit itself. The serial number is the most reliable basis for identifying the correct spare part – the engine designation alone is sometimes not enough, as there are revisions within a series.
How often should the impeller be replaced on a Volvo Penta engine?
Volvo Penta recommends in most service manuals a replacement at least every two years or after 200 to 300 operating hours – whichever comes first. Operating the engine without water after a longer period of disuse risks the impeller blades tearing.
Do anodes from third-party manufacturers fit my Volvo Penta drive?
Yes, provided that the shape, mounting holes, and alloy match the respective drive generation. Zinc or aluminum anodes are used for saltwater, and magnesium anodes for freshwater. When purchasing, always check the compatibility information for your specific drive unit.
