Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte

Can I apply a sealant directly onto fresh antifouling paint?
No - antifouling and sealants are generally incompatible. Sealants should only be applied to the underwater hull where no antifouling is used, for example, on the gelcoat waterline or on hulls in dry storage.
How many coats are usually required for a sealant?
That depends on the product – many sealants are applied in two to three thin coats, with strict adherence to the recoat time. The manufacturer's instructions on the product label are binding and non-negotiable.
Can a sealant be applied to an oiled teak deck?
Only if the oil is fully cured and the surface is thoroughly cleaned. Many sealants do not adhere reliably to freshly oiled teak. When in doubt, completely remove the old coating and re-build the surface.
How do I know when a sealant needs to be refreshed?
If water no longer beads up but wets the surface, the protective effect is significantly reduced. Visible dull spots, chalking, or slight discoloration also indicate that a new coat is due – it's better to re-apply early than to wait until it's completely weathered.
