What minimum IP rating should a USB charger in the cockpit have?
For installation in the cockpit or near splash water, at least IP65 is recommended. Devices without an IP rating should only be used in dry indoor areas.
Can I connect a wireless charger directly to the 12V onboard power supply?
Most wireless charging pads require a USB input and therefore need an intermediate 12V-to-USB converter. Some models come with their own 12V connection – this will be stated in the technical specifications of the respective device.
How many devices can I charge simultaneously without overloading the onboard power supply?
That depends on the total current of the charger and your fuse rating. Add up the maximum current draw of all connected devices and ensure that the cable and fuse can continuously handle this value.
Why do some USB ports barely charge my navigation tablet, even though it's connected?
Older USB-A ports often only deliver 1–2 A, which is not enough for a running tablet with a bright display. A port with Power Delivery or a higher charging current solves the problem – provided the tablet supports the corresponding standard.
