How do I know if a block is suitable for my rope?
The specified sheave diameter must match the rope diameter – sheaves that are too small will pinch the rope and significantly increase friction. The manufacturer's specifications usually indicate the recommended rope range.
Does the breaking strength of the block have to match the breaking strength of the rope?
The breaking strength of the block should at least match the maximum load at that position – including the redirecting forces that occur. All connecting elements such as shackles and eye bolts must achieve the same breaking strength.
Can I combine special blocks with existing tracks and Harken fittings?
That depends on the specific mounting type. Many blocks are equipped with standard shackles or T-bolts that fit common track systems – but check dimensions and mounting type in advance, as there is no uniform standard.
How do I properly maintain blocks with ball bearings after the season?
Rinse sheaves and bearings with fresh water, let them dry, and then lightly treat the bearings with a suitable bearing oil. At the same time, check whether the sheave is still running smoothly and if there is any play in the bearing.
