What cutout size do I need for a solar vent?
Most solar vents fit into standard hatch cutouts, common sizes include 150 mm or 280 mm side length. Measure your existing cutout precisely before ordering – manufacturer specifications usually refer to the installation cutout, not the external dimensions of the device.
Can a solar vent withstand rain?
Good models are designed so that no rainwater penetrates, but this depends heavily on proper sealing during installation. Use marine-grade sealant and check after the first rain whether the sealing lip is everywhere.
Can I also operate the solar vent in winter storage?
Yes, this is even one of the main applications. As long as the panel receives light, the fan runs – this prevents condensation and mold during long periods of inactivity. However, the airflow capacity is significantly reduced with very low light incidence in the hall.
Is a reversibly switchable fan useful?
Reversible models are more flexible: you can choose whether the fan supplies fresh air or expels moist air. This is particularly practical if you have wet equipment on board or want to control the airflow specifically.
