The most reliable way is to use the serial number on the type plate on the lower fitting of the rig. Alternatively, the exact component designation from the original Seldén spare parts list, which you can usually still get from the shipyard support point, will help.
Can I replace individual foil segments of the extrusion without replacing the entire system?
Yes, the aluminum extrusion segments of System 22 can be replaced individually. It is important to use the same profile generation, as Seldén has slightly revised the profile over the years and different generations do not always fit together smoothly.
Which lubricant is suitable for the bearings and pivot points of System 22?
An oil- and resin-free silicone-based agent is recommended. Mineral oil-based oils can attack plastic components in the bearing and also attract dirt, which permanently impairs smooth operation.
Does the lower swivel of System 22 fit every forestay diameter?
No. The lower swivel is designed for a specific forestay diameter range. Therefore, check the exact wire diameter of your forestay before purchasing - an incorrectly dimensioned swivel will jam or run heavily and wear out faster.
