Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- What IP rating do I need for switches in the cockpit or on deck?
- In the cockpit and exposed areas, a switch should at least be protected against splashing water. Check the manufacturer's specifications for the IP rating and choose a higher rating for particularly wet areas.
- Can I use any switch for any amperage on board?
- No. Every switch has a maximum current rating that you should absolutely adhere to. Measure the actual current of the consumer and choose a switch that can permanently withstand this load – a little reserve is advisable.
- What is the difference between a toggle switch and a push-button switch on board?
- A toggle switch remains in its position – i.e., permanently on or off – and is suitable for lighting or pumps. A push-button switch only gives a brief impulse as long as it is pressed, and is therefore typical for horns, starters, or signal devices.
- How do I properly maintain switches and push-buttons after the sailing season?
- Check all connections for corrosion and treat plug contacts with a suitable contact spray or anti-corrosion grease. You can keep moving parts easily operable; if switches are stuck or switch improperly after the winter break, you should replace them in good time before the start of the season.
