Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- What is the difference between ISO 9650-1 and ISO 9650-2?
- ISO 9650-1 is for use in severe weather conditions and at greater distances from the coast; ISO 9650-2 is designed for coastal navigation in calmer conditions. Which standard you need depends on your cruising area and the regulations of your insurance or regatta notice.
- How often must a life raft be serviced?
- Most manufacturers stipulate a service interval of one to three years – the exact interval is stated in the manual and on the service label of the raft. A raft not serviced in due time is considered not ready for use and may have insurance implications in the event of a claim.
- Can I buy a life raft for six people, even though my crew only has four people?
- Yes, and it is even recommended. The specified number of people describes the maximum capacity under emergency conditions – more space means more freedom of movement, better insulation, and less stress for the crew in an emergency.
- What is a hydrostatic release and do I have to replace it?
- A hydrostatic release unit (HRU) automatically deploys the life raft when the boat sinks to a certain water depth. It has its own expiry date – usually two years – and must be replaced in good time, independently of the raft itself.
