The right product for the right surface

GRP, wood, aluminum, plastic – each material places different demands on adhesives, sealants, or fillers. Some products only adhere to dry surfaces, while others can also be processed in damp conditions. Before purchasing, check whether the product is approved for your surface and what processing temperatures apply.

Area of application: Underwater is not the same as above water

Repair materials for the waterline or underwater hull must be permanently watertight and resistant to osmosis and antifouling agents. Products for the superstructure or cabin have different requirements – such as UV stability or elasticity in case of temperature fluctuations. Read the technical data sheets before you start.

Typical pitfalls in boat repair

Curing times that are too short are one of the most common mistakes. Many repairs fail because they were stressed or overpainted too early. Also, pay attention to proper surface preparation – sanding, degreasing, drying. This is often more important than the product itself. Small quantities can be critical when mixing: mixing ratios for epoxy systems must be precisely adhered to.

For repairs you only need next season: Store opened containers tightly closed and dry, as moisture renders many two-component products unusable.
