Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- How can I tell if a pump or hose is approved for drinking water?
- Products for drinking water carry appropriate markings or approvals, such as WRAS, KTW, or comparable standards. When in doubt, this information can be found in the manufacturer's data sheet – you should rely on this information, not on the mere appearance of the material.
- How often should I replace the impeller of my cooling water or deck wash pump?
- As a rule of thumb, it should be checked at least once per season, or more frequently with intensive use. Rubber impellers harden over time and can break – fragments in the cooling system can cause expensive consequential damage, so check before the start of the season or replace proactively.
- Can I use a normal bilge pump for oily bilge water?
- No. Oily bilge water must not be pumped overboard unfiltered and attacks many standard membranes. For this application, there are special oil-resistant pumps and bilge oil separators – and the legal regulations for disposal must be strictly observed.
- Which hose connection is more reliable in the long term on a boat: push-fit fitting or hose clamp?
- Both systems work well if installed correctly. With push-fit fittings, sufficient insertion depth and locking are important; with hose clamps, quality is key – double-wire stainless steel clamps are significantly superior to simple band clamps because they create more even contact pressure and are better protected against corrosion.
