Which anode is right for my propeller – zinc, aluminum, or magnesium?
That depends on the water you're using it in: zinc in saltwater, aluminum in brackish water, magnesium in freshwater. Zinc offers almost no protection in freshwater, and magnesium dissolves too quickly in saltwater – so the choice of alloy is not a matter of preference.
How often do I need to replace the propeller anode?
The anode should be replaced at the latest when it's half worn away. If used year-round in saltwater, this might be necessary after just one season – so check it during every season preparation and after extended periods of inactivity.
Can I use a hub sleeve from a different brand if the outer diameter fits?
No, the outer diameter alone is not sufficient. The keyway profile, hub geometry, and material stiffness must be matched to the engine and propeller. An incorrectly fitting sleeve can impair power transmission or, in the worst case, cause the propeller to be lost.
Do I need a special propeller puller, or can I do it without one?
A suitable puller is strongly recommended. Without it, you risk damage to the propeller hub, shaft, or gearbox casing – especially if the propeller is stuck due to corrosion. The tool pays for itself with the first replacement, which you would otherwise have done at the shipyard.
