Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- Do I need a primer if I paint directly over old antifouling?
- That depends on how well the old coating adheres and whether you are changing the system. When changing systems or if the substrate is damaged, a compatible adhesion primer is almost always necessary to ensure adhesion and protective effect.
- Can I use an epoxy primer on aluminum?
- Only if it is explicitly approved for aluminum. Standard epoxy primers can promote galvanic reactions on aluminum. Use a primer specifically formulated for light metal that takes this problem into account.
- How many coats of primer are advisable below the waterline?
- This is determined by the respective product system. For osmosis protection on GRP, two to three coats of epoxy primer are often recommended, each applied within the specified recoating time.
- How long do I have to wait after priming before applying antifouling?
- The recoating time is stated in the technical data sheet for the primer and varies depending on temperature and humidity. Adhere to this time window precisely – painting too early or too late will compromise adhesion and durability.
