How do I know what size crimp ring or crimp sleeve I need?
The decisive factors are the inner diameter of the hose or pipe and the outer diameter of the nipple or fitting. Measure both values on the existing component – type plates or manufacturer specifications on the boat do not always match the actual installed size.
Can I also use brass crimp sleeves outdoors?
Brass is less suitable for areas permanently exposed to salt spray or splashing water because it corrodes faster than stainless steel. In protected indoor areas or in freshwater installations, however, brass is unproblematic and easy to work with.
Do I absolutely need special tools to install crimp sleeves?
Yes, a uniform and tight crimp cannot be reliably produced without the appropriate crimping tool. A sleeve that has only been mechanically squeezed can come loose or become leaky – particularly critical for fittings below the waterline.
Are crimp rings and crimp sleeves suitable for drinking water and fuel lines?
This depends on the material and the approval of the respective component. For drinking water, only expressly approved materials should be used, and for fuel lines, the media compatibility of the alloy must be checked. Refer to the product description or, if in doubt, ask us directly.
