Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- Can I use regular car polish on my boat hull?
- Car polishes are not designed for the long-term UV and saltwater exposure that boat paints or gel coats endure. When in doubt, it's better to use products explicitly formulated for marine applications – they protect longer and are less abrasive on delicate surfaces.
- How can I tell if my gel coat is just oxidized or already permanently damaged?
- Oxidation appears as a dull, chalky film that can usually be removed well with a cleaning polish. Deep cracks, blisters, or discolorations that remain after polishing indicate structural damage – here, only repair helps, not polish.
- In what order should I properly polish and seal the hull?
- First, clean and dry the hull, then prepare the surface with an abrasive or cleaning polish, wipe off residue, and then protect it with a wax or hard wax sealant. Do not skip the sealing – otherwise, polished surfaces will quickly reabsorb dirt.
- How often do I need to polish my hull each year?
- That depends on the cruising area, berth, and UV exposure. As a general rule: once for season preparation, and in case of intensive use or strong sunlight, also mid-season. A simple water droplet test shows whether the protective layer is still intact – if the water no longer beads up, it's time.
