Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- How do I know what size hawsepipe I need?
- The crucial factor is the inner diameter of the hawsepipe in relation to the outer diameter of your chain or line. As a rule of thumb, the opening should be about 20–30% larger than the thickest item passing through it, to prevent chafing.
- Can I also mount a stainless steel hawsepipe on a wooden deck?
- Yes, but you should use a sealant suitable for wood, and choose washers that are large enough so that the wood is not compressed. Also, regularly check whether the seal has settled due to the swelling and shrinking of the wood.
- What is the difference between a hawsepipe and a deck plate or fairlead?
- A simple hawsepipe is a closed guide opening. A fairlead or deck plate has an upwardly open notch, through which you can insert a line from the side without having to thread it through – practical for frequently changing mooring lines.
- Which sealant is suitable for mounting hawsepipes?
- For GRP, polyurethane or polysulfide sealants are recommended, which also adhere underwater and remain flexible. Pure silicone adheres poorly to GRP and often detaches after a short time. For wood, polysulfide-based products specially formulated for boat building are suitable.
