Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- What type of cleat is suitable for what rope thickness?
- As a rule of thumb: the cleat should be about ten times as long as the rope diameter. A 10 mm rope therefore requires a cleat of about 100 mm in length – otherwise it will not hold securely and will slip under load.
- Stainless steel or bronze – which is more corrosion-resistant?
- Both materials are suitable for saltwater use. High-quality bronze fittings can even have an edge in certain environments because they do not develop crevice corrosion. For modern GRP boats, stainless steel (A4/316) is the simpler choice.
- How do I properly seal a hawsepipe during installation?
- Apply sealant evenly to the contact surface, insert the hawsepipe, and only tighten the fasteners when the sealant is still soft – this ensures it spreads completely. Silicone adheres poorly to many surfaces; it's better to use special polysulfide or polyurethane sealant.
- Can I replace an existing bollard with a larger one without drilling new holes?
- Only if the new bollard has exactly the same hole spacing. Different spacings mean new drillings – and old holes must be carefully closed and sealed before you install the new bollard.
