Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- What cable cross-section do I need for a 10 A consumer with a 5-meter cable run?
- For 12 V, 10 A, and a total length of 10 m (forward and return conductor), at least 2.5 mm², or preferably 4 mm², is recommended to keep the voltage drop below 3%. Always calculate both conductors together.
- What differentiates marine cable from normal automotive cable?
- Marine cable has a finer strand construction, making it more resistant to vibrations and more flexible. Additionally, the copper conductor is often tinned, which significantly slows down corrosion caused by moisture and salt air.
- Can I use commercially available crimp connectors (automotive) for marine electrical systems?
- Preferably not. Standard automotive crimp connectors are not waterproof and quickly corrode in a damp environment. Use waterproof crimp connectors with embedded sealant or heat-shrink solder connectors for permanent connections.
- Where do I place the fuse in a new circuit?
- The fuse should be placed as close as possible to the positive terminal of the battery or busbar – typically within 30 cm. This protects the entire cable in the event of a short circuit, not just the consumer.
