How do I find out which traveler car fits my existing track?
The cross-section of the track is decisive, often designed as a T-slot or double-T profile. Measure the width and height of the profile and compare them with the manufacturer's specifications for the car – many systems are not cross-manufacturer compatible.
What breaking load should a traveler system have for my boat class?
The required breaking load depends on mast height, sail size, and typical wind strength. As a guide: it is better to plan for a reserve capacity and check the manufacturer's specifications for the maximum boat length or sail size before committing.
Can I retroactively install a ball-bearing car in an existing plain bearing track?
Only if the track cross-section and car width are identical. Ball-bearing cars often have a different running profile than plain bearing cars, even from the same manufacturer – a direct exchange is therefore not always possible.
How do I properly maintain a traveler car after the sailing season?
Rinse the track and car thoroughly with fresh water, remove salt residues from the running track, and then treat all moving parts with a PTFE or silicone spray. Ball-bearing cars should be checked for play and smooth running before being stored.
