Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- Can I use brass fittings directly in saltwater underwater environments?
- We do not recommend this. Brass is susceptible to dezincification with continuous saltwater contact and galvanic stress. For underwater applications, you should use gunmetal or stainless steel.
- What is the difference between G-thread and metric thread for fittings?
- G-thread (also BSP) is a pipe thread with inch dimensions, which is standard in many onboard installations. Metric threads follow the M-system. The two types are not compatible with each other – always check which thread your existing system has before purchasing.
- May I use brass fittings for fuel lines?
- Yes, brass is approved for many fuel applications and is used for this purpose in boat building. It is crucial that the fitting is explicitly intended for this use – you can identify this in the product description of the respective item.
- How do you properly seal brass fittings?
- For pipe threads (G/BSP), PTFE tape or thread sealant is typically used. For tapered threads, the cone itself often provides the seal. It is important not to apply too much force – brass is softer than steel and can crack or damage the thread if overtightened.
