Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- How do I know what size I need?
- Measure the wire diameter of the bow on the existing shackle with calipers – this is the nominal size. Additionally, pay attention to the stated working load limit to ensure the replacement shackle matches the actual load at that point.
- What is the difference between a D-shackle and an anchor shackle?
- The D-shackle has a narrow, symmetrical bow and is well-suited for ropes and blocks. The anchor shackle has a wider, more rounded bow that can accommodate chain links without damaging them – making it the first choice for anchor gear and chain connections.
- Do I need to secure the pin after insertion?
- Yes, absolutely. Due to load changes and vibrations, an unsecured pin can come loose on its own. Thread a piece of thin rope or seizing wire through the hole in the pin and tie it around the bow – this is sufficient for reliable securing.
- Can stainless steel on board still rust or seize?
- Under certain conditions – such as continuous contact with saltwater without movement – stainless steel can develop contact corrosion or fretting corrosion. To keep screw pins moving freely, a little Teflon spray or petroleum jelly on the thread, applied before assembly or during the seasonal check, can help.
