Which transducer is suitable for my GRP hull?
For GRP hulls, a glue-in transducer (shoot-through) that does not require a hull penetration is often suitable. The signal quality depends on the hull thickness and construction – with sandwich constructions, this method usually does not work reliably.
What is the difference between 50 kHz and 200 kHz for a fishfinder?
200 kHz provides finer resolution and is well suited for depths up to about 100 meters. 50 kHz penetrates deeper but shows less detail. Many transducers combine both frequencies, which is the most flexible in most cruising situations.
Can I connect the fishfinder to my existing chart plotter?
That depends on the interface. Devices with NMEA 2000 can be integrated into compatible networks, so depth values appear on other displays. Before purchasing, check whether the plotter and fishfinder use the same bus standard and connector type.
How do I properly mount the transducer on the transom?
The transducer should be mounted so that it remains completely in the water when underway and is not in the slipstream of struts or the keel. The bottom edge should be flush with the hull or protrude slightly, but never so deep that cavitation occurs.
