Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte

How do I calculate the required load capacity for my davit?
Weigh your dinghy fully equipped – i.e., with outboard motor, tank, and everything else in it. Then choose a davit whose rated load capacity is significantly higher, as dynamic loads from swell or rough hoisting can exceed the static load many times over.
Can I mount a davit without a pushpit?
Yes, many davit systems can be attached directly to the bathing platform or hull, provided there is sufficient material for the screws. For GRP hulls, an internal reinforcement plate is usually necessary to safely transfer the forces.
Stainless steel or aluminum – which is better suited for davits?
That depends on your priority: Stainless steel is more durable under mechanical stress and tolerates scratches better, but adds more weight to the stern. Aluminum is lighter and therefore particularly interesting for sailors who need to pay attention to the trim – but it is more sensitive to contact with other metals and bilge water.
How often should I maintain the moving parts of my davit?
At least once a season, clean all joints, rollers, and shackles, check for wear, and lubricate them with a saltwater-resistant lubricant. If you use your davit regularly under load, you should check the rope or line every season for chafing and stiffness.
