Where can I find the serial number of my Caterpillar marine engine?
The serial number is located on the nameplate, which is directly attached to the engine block – usually on the side or on the front engine cover. In addition, it is often entered in the logbook or in the original service record.
Can I use compatible parts instead of original parts for my Cat marine engine?
For wear parts such as oil and fuel filters or V-belts, tested alternatives are generally safe, provided that the technical specifications match exactly. For safety-relevant components such as injection components or control parts, we recommend original parts.
How often should I change the impeller of the seawater pump on a Caterpillar marine engine?
As a rule of thumb, it should be changed once per season or according to the manufacturer's specifications in the service plan – whichever comes first. If the impeller is used for too long, there is a risk of cracks or material loss, which can clog cooling channels.
