Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- What is the difference between foul-weather gear and a normal rain jacket?
- Foul-weather gear is specifically designed for continuous exposure to spray and rain at sea: it usually has sealed or taped seams, reinforced elbows and knees, and storm-proof closures. A normal rain jacket is designed for short showers and is much less resistant to continuous wetness and saltwater.
- How do I properly wash membrane sailing clothing?
- Wash membrane textiles at low temperatures with a mild, soap-free detergent – absolutely avoid fabric softener, as it clogs the pores of the membrane. Afterwards, briefly tumble dry on a low setting to reactivate the water-repellent outer coating.
- Is merino wool really suitable as a base layer on the water?
- Yes, merino wool regulates body temperature well, absorbs moisture without feeling cold, and barely smells even after multiple wears. The disadvantage: it dries slower than synthetic fibers and is less abrasion-resistant under intensive mechanical stress – but it is a very good choice for base layers under a jacket.
- Do I need different clothing on a motorboat than on a sailboat?
- On a motorboat, you often travel faster, which significantly increases wind and cold – a good outer layer is therefore at least as important. Because you do less physical work than when sailing, you also cool down faster, which is why the insulation layer can often be a bit warmer.
