Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- What charging current do I need for my house battery?
- As a rule of thumb, about one-tenth of the nominal capacity in amperes applies – so a 100 Ah battery charges well with around 10 A. Too much current damages the battery, too little unnecessarily prolongs the charging time and rarely achieves full capacity.
- Can I use a normal car charger on a boat?
- This is possible in the short term, but car chargers are usually not splash-proof and often do not offer a multi-circuit function for starter and service batteries. Marine chargers are designed for the specific requirements on board and are the safer choice in the long run.
- Do I have to set the charging profile to my battery type?
- Yes, absolutely. AGM, gel, and lithium batteries tolerate different charging voltages and curves than wet lead-acid batteries. An incorrect profile can lead to overcharging, loss of capacity, or, in the worst case, a defect.
- Can I leave the charger connected permanently, even over the winter?
- This works well if the device has a true maintenance or winter mode. It then keeps the battery charged at a low voltage without overcharging it. Make sure that the shore power connection at the jetty is designed for continuous operation.
