Which chain pitch do I need for my anchor winch?
The chain pitch must exactly match your winch and your bow roller – 8 mm, 10 mm, or 13 mm stud link chain are typical, but not every winch handles every type equally well. Check the manufacturer's specifications for your winch and, if in doubt, measure an existing chain link before buying a replacement.
Does a chain stopper have to match the chain size?
Yes, chain stoppers are size-specific – a stopper that is too large will not grip reliably, and one that is too small can damage or break the chain links. The appropriate chain cross-section is always indicated on the product or in the data sheet.
Can I combine stainless steel shackles with galvanized anchor chain?
This works mechanically, but due to the contact of dissimilar metals, it promotes corrosion on both parts. If possible, you should use uniform materials or regularly inspect and grease the contact area.
How often should I check my bow roller for wear?
At least once per season – and additionally after every longer trip with frequent anchoring. Look for cracks in the plastic, sharp edges that wear into the chain, and check whether the roller still rotates freely and there is no bearing play.
