anchor
Stay safe – even in a draft
An anchor is the basis for safe mooring in a bay. Weight, boat length, and cruising area determine which system is right for you.
Many sailors use a combination of chain and rope to balance hold and handling. Important considerations also include the right bow roller, the correct chain calibration, and a sturdy attachment.
With the right anchor gear, your boat will lie more calmly – even in wind and waves.
Discover variants, materials, and designs that are built for maritime use. This way, you'll find equipment that remains reliable on board – season after season.

Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- Which anchor type works best on sandy ground?
- Spade anchors and modern high-holding power anchors dig into sand particularly reliably and are considered especially suitable for this type of seabed. Plow anchors are also a proven choice, while Admiralty anchors hold less well on sand.
- How much chain should I pay out for safe anchoring?
- As a rule of thumb, three to five times the water depth for all-chain rode; for a chain-rope combination, five to seven times. In strong winds and uncertain ground, it is advisable to pay out more generously.
- Can I combine my existing anchor with a new anchor chain?
- Generally yes, provided the connecting shackle matches the chain size and both parts are made of compatible materials. Make sure the chain size also fits your windlass or winch, otherwise you risk blockages when retrieving.
- How do I prevent the anchor and chain from rusting after the season?
- Rinse all anchoring gear with fresh water after each use and thoroughly at the end of the season. Shackles and connecting links can be sprayed with a corrosion-inhibiting agent; store the chain and anchor dry and check them for material fatigue before each new season.
