Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- What IP rating do I need for a 230V socket in the cockpit?
- In the cockpit, the socket should have at least IP55, preferably IP66 or IP67, as splashing water and rain regularly occur there. In a closed saloon, IP44 is often sufficient, but check the exact manufacturer's specifications for the installation location.
- Do I absolutely have to install a residual current device (RCD) on board?
- Yes, an RCD is strongly recommended for all 230V circuits on board and is mandatory in many regulations for recreational boats. In water, body resistance is significantly lower than on land – an RCD is not an option here, but a safety fundamental.
- Can I use normal household cables for 230V wiring on board?
- No, in the boat area you should exclusively use marine cables with fine-stranded, tinned copper conductors. Household cables with solid wire are not designed for vibrations and oxidize significantly faster in salty air.
- How do I maintain 230V plug connections on board to prevent corrosion?
- After every long break, check plug connections for verdigris or white deposits and, if necessary, treat them with a contact spray suitable for electrical contacts. Always insert plugs completely and – where present – close protective covers after disconnecting.
