Zinc anodes
Protect your Boat from Corrosion
Zinc anodes protect your boat from galvanic corrosion – a small part with a big impact.
The right anode depends on the cruising area, material, and mounting position. Saltwater, brackish water, and freshwater require different alloys.
Dimensions, hole spacing, and shape must fit precisely for the anode to work properly.
Discover variants, materials, and designs built for marine use. This way, you'll find equipment that remains reliable on board – season after season.

Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- Can I use zinc anodes in fresh water?
- No, zinc anodes do not work reliably in fresh water because the electrical resistance of the water is too high. For inland waters, you need magnesium anodes, which have the correct electrode potential there.
- How do I measure my old shaft anode so that the new one fits?
- The inner diameter of the bore, the hole spacing of the fastening screws, and the length of the anode are important. It is best to remove the old anode and measure these three values directly – manufacturer specifications in your drive's manual will also help.
- How often do I need to change zinc anodes?
- As a rule of thumb: if an anode has corroded to about half its original volume, it should be replaced. For year-round moorings in saltwater, this can be the case after just one season.
- My new anode is barely touched after one season – is that a good sign?
- Not necessarily. An anode that is barely consumed often indicates poor electrical contact, for example due to paint or rust between the anode and the metal surface. The galvanic circuit is then interrupted, and the anode does not protect properly – check contact surfaces and clean them until shiny.
