Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- Which cover is better for outdoor storage – tarpaulin or shrink wrap?
- That depends on your boat and budget. A well-fitting tarpaulin is reusable and can be opened when needed, whereas shrink wrap provides a more airtight seal – which can lead to mold if there are no ventilation openings. For most recreational boats, a suitable tarpaulin with ventilation options is the more practical choice.
- Do I have to remove the outboard motor for winter storage, or is it enough to winterize it?
- Both are possible, but an outboard motor overwinters much better in a dry, frost-free room than outside on the transom. If you leave it on the boat, winterize the fuel system, completely drain the cooling water, and protect the connections from moisture.
- How do I properly store boat cushions and textiles over the winter?
- Cushions should be stored dry, ventilated, and ideally upright or flat – not stacked in plastic bags, as moisture can accumulate there and cause mold. Breathable storage bags or simply a dry cellar with air circulation are much better.
- What happens to the onboard battery during winter storage, and do I have to remove it?
- A battery that remains fully discharged for months will suffer permanent damage. Ideally, remove it and store it in a frost-free place – or keep it charged with a suitable trickle charger. Many chargers have a special winter storage mode for this purpose.
