As a sacrificial anode, it sacrifices itself instead of valuable engine parts, reliably protecting the drive and underwater hull from electrochemical corrosion in salt and brackish water.

Tip: Do not paint over zinc anodes with paint or antifouling – the free metal surface must have direct contact with the water for cathodic protection to work.
