As a sacrificial anode, it dissolves in a controlled manner – instead of the valuable metal of your drive.

Tip: When installing, clean the contact surface on the drive until it is bare and keep it free of grease – this is the only way for the protective current to flow unhindered. In fresh water, a magnesium anode is sufficient; zinc is the right choice for salt and brackish water.
