Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- How do I measure the correct length for a replacement shift cable?
- Measure the old cable from the lever outlet to the engine connection when taut, preferably with a tape measure along the actual cable routing. Account for bends and deflections, as a cable that is too short will snap under load, and one that is too long will be slack and jam.
- Do universal levers fit every outboard motor?
- Not automatically. Many engine manufacturers use their own cable connection standards, and a universal lever often requires a suitable adapter kit. Before purchasing, check which connection format your engine requires and look at the product data to see which engine brands are explicitly mentioned.
- Can I replace a single-lever control with a dual-lever unit?
- Basically yes, but the mounting cutout at the helm must fit the new unit, and you will need two separate cables instead of one combined. Compare the installation dimensions of the new unit with your existing cutout before buying.
- How often should I replace shift cables?
- There is no fixed interval, but at the latest when you notice resistance, clicking, or a jerky shifting sensation, it's time for a replacement. Visible corrosion on the end ferrules or a broken outer sheath are clear immediate replacement signals.
