Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- What IP rating do switches need for a boat's exterior?
- For use on deck or in splash-prone areas, the switch should be at least splash-proof. The exact IP rating is specified in the respective product data sheet – check this before purchasing, based on the planned installation location.
- Can I simply replace a blown fuse with a stronger one?
- No. An oversized fuse no longer adequately protects the downstream cable and can cause a cable fire in the event of a fault. Always replace fuses with the same type and identical amperage.
- What is the practical difference between a circuit breaker and a fuse on board?
- A circuit breaker can be reset by pressing a button after tripping, without needing spare parts. A fuse is used up after blowing – you should always have suitable replacements on board.
- How do I protect switches and fuse holders from corrosion?
- Treat contacts and terminals once per season with a suitable contact and corrosion protection spray. Also check the tight fit of all cable connections, as vibrations and temperature changes can loosen terminals over time.
