Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- Can I use normal household cleaners to clean my boat?
- We advise against it. Many household cleaners contain surfactants or solvents that can dull gelcoat, attack rubber seals, or get into the water and cause damage there. Marine-specific cleaners are adapted to the materials used and often also to the legal requirements for waterways.
- How often should I wax or seal my GRP hull?
- That depends on the area and the intensity of use – as a rough guide: once for launching, once for outfitting, and for intensive use or permanent berths in saltwater, also in between. A simple test: If water no longer beads off, the protective layer is used up.
- What should I consider when cleaning teak on board?
- Teak reacts sensitively to highly alkaline cleaners, which can lighten the wood, but also dry it out and attack its structure. It is best to use special teak cleaners and then treat it with teak oil or a sealant so that the wood does not turn grey and splinter.
- Am I allowed to use boat cleaners directly at the water?
- This is regulated differently depending on the product and federal state. Biodegradable and phosphate-free cleaners are generally less critical, but even here: foam and wastewater should not run directly into the water if possible. In case of doubt, clean on dry land or at the marina's washing station.
