Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- How long should a long fender be for my boat?
- That depends on which area of the hull you want to protect. Rule of thumb: The fender should cover at least the section between the rubbing strake and the lowest possible contact point. When in doubt, it's better to choose a slightly longer one, as a fender that's too short will create pressure points at the ends.
- Can I leave long fenders permanently attached to the boat?
- Basically yes, but make sure that the fender doesn't chafe against the hull when hanging loosely – that will leave scuff marks in the gelcoat. Either secure it tightly or retrieve it when casting off.
- Are long fenders also suitable for lock passages?
- Yes, especially for locks with irregular concrete walls or sheet piling, long fenders are well suited because they distribute the pressure over a large area instead of concentrating it at one point. It's important that they are securely fastened and cannot slip.
- How do I know when a long fender needs to be replaced?
- Visible cracks, severely hardened or brittle material, and worn out attachment eyelets are clear signs. The ends and attachment points usually age first – you should check these carefully at the beginning of the season.
