Magnification/Lens 8x42
The image is 8 times larger than what the naked eye sees. 7x is the recommended magnification for marine binoculars. The second number, 42, indicates the diameter of the objective lens. The higher the number, the better the light gathering. This is advantageous in low-light conditions. A 50mm objective lens is recommended for use at sea.
BaK-4 prism
The barium prism material has an excellent ability to transmit light and image from the objective lens through the prisms to the eyepiece and then to the eye. The BK-4 is a high-quality optical system.
Viewing angle: 6.6
The viewing angle in degrees indicates the width of the image that can be seen at a distance of 1000 meters. A viewing angle of 6.6° results in a width of 115.3 m at a distance of 1000 meters.
