As a rule of thumb, the sheave diameter should be at least eight times the rope diameter. So, for a 10 mm sheet, a sheave diameter of at least 80 mm is needed, otherwise the rope will suffer and friction will noticeably increase.
Can I directly replace a plain bearing block with a ball bearing block?
Often yes, if the mounting dimension, sheave diameter, and breaking load match. However, check the overall length and connection geometry, as manufacturers vary here. If in doubt, a direct comparison of the technical drawings is worthwhile.
