Star Brite Premium -46 °C antifreeze provides protection against freezing for water systems and engines during winter storage.
This propylene glycol-based antifreeze contains corrosion inhibitors that protect all metal parts and seals and are safe for copper, brass, and plastic. Undiluted, it provides protection down to -46°C and prevents pipes from bursting due to freezing.
It is suitable for use in boats, motorhomes, caravans, holiday homes and swimming pools.
The reliable solution for winterizing various vehicles and machines. When used undiluted, it protects against pipe bursts down to -46°C. If you are winterizing a system with PVC (plastic) pipes and the temperature drops below -23°C, we recommend Star brite Bio-Origin -70°C antifreeze. All antifreeze specifications refer to the industry standard for pipe burst protection, not protection against freezing.
What's the difference? If we state that the antifreeze protects down to a temperature of -46°C, this means that a copper pipe filled with this antifreeze will burst at a temperature of -46°C. Ice crystals begin to form in the solution at around -9°C to -11°C. This point is called the freezing point. As the temperature drops further, denser ice crystals will form and expand. Due to the expansion of the solution, the pressure in the pipe increases, and a copper pipe will burst at -46°C. A PVC pipe, on the other hand, will burst at -23°C. This temperature classification based on bursting ultimately saves money. If the pipe is not in use, it's not necessary to keep the system completely ice-free. To achieve this, you would need to use a more concentrated antifreeze, which costs more but doesn't actually offer any real advantage.
Application:
For winterizing water systems:
1. Drain the entire water system as completely as possible. Open the hot and cold water taps and all other drains. Blow out as much water as possible from the system using compressed air.
2. Drain the hot water tank. Leave the vent valve open after draining. Create a bypass for the hot water tank by disconnecting the inlet and outlet pipes and connecting them with fittings or a hose.
3. Add the Premium -46 °C antifreeze undiluted to the drinking water system.
4. Pressurize the system and turn on the water pump.
5. Open all taps, starting with the one furthest away, and let the antifreeze flow until the colored liquid becomes visible. Then close the drain.
6. Repeat step 5 for each freshwater drain opening.
7. Flush the toilet several times to ensure it is completely empty. Make sure the storage tank is completely empty.
8. Operate the pump valve several times to ensure the wastewater system contains sufficient antifreeze to protect it from freezing. Then, in spring: Flush the entire system thoroughly with fresh water for 15-20 minutes until the colored antifreeze is completely removed from the system and no longer visible.
For winterizing the engine :
1. Carry out all necessary repairs to the cooling system before treatment.
2. Follow the engine manufacturer's procedure for draining the coolant.
3. Fill the engine's cooling system with premium antifreeze for drinking water systems and engine winterization.
4. When the engine is restarted, drain the antifreeze and dispose of it in accordance with environmental regulations.
