Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- What IP rating do I need for outdoor speakers on my boat?
- For open cockpits and exterior walls, at least IPX5 is recommended, with IPX6 or IPX7 being even better. IPX5 protects against jet water, while IPX6 protects against powerful jets from any direction – relevant if speakers are exposed to direct waves or deck wash.
- How do I correctly measure the installation size for a new flush-mount speaker?
- Measure the cut-out diameter of the existing opening or plan it based on the outer diameter of the new speaker. More important than the outer diameter is the mounting depth: it must match the free space behind the installation point, without touching cables, struts, or fuel tank caps.
- Can I use a standard car radio as a head unit on board?
- In the short term, yes, but car head units are not designed for consistently damp environments – corrosion on terminals and circuit boards is to be expected. Marine head units have sealed housings, saltwater-resistant coatings, and are usually easier to read in sunlight.
- Why does my on-board system hum, even though all connections are plugged in?
- Humming usually occurs due to a poor or incorrectly placed ground. Check whether all components lead to the same ground point in the on-board electrical system and whether ground cables are touching painted or corroded surfaces. Interference from the engine circuit can also be reduced by star-shaped grounding and sufficient cable cross-section.
