Deine Fragen / Unsere Antworte
- How do I measure the correct length for a swim ladder for my boat?
- Measure the distance from the attachment point at the stern or platform to about 30 cm below the waterline – with a typical load. Many manufacturers state the total length of the ladder, not the usable boarding length, so include the length of the hooks at the top.
- Is stainless steel or aluminum better for a boat ladder in saltwater?
- Both materials work in saltwater if the quality is right. Stainless steel is heavier but more robust under mechanical stress. Aluminum is lighter and corrodes less extensively, but is more sensitive at welds and contact points with other metals – keyword contact corrosion.
- Can I install a swim ladder on my motorboat later?
- That depends on the hull design. Many ladders can be retrofitted with gunwale hooks without drilling. For a built-in solution, you need a suitable mounting surface at the stern or on the swim platform. Look closely at the mounting drawing in the product data sheet before you buy.
- How do I maintain a gangway or boarding ladder after the season?
- Rinse salt and dirt thoroughly with fresh water before storing the ladder. Joints and moving parts can be kept smooth with an acid-free grease or Teflon spray. Check rubber or plastic anti-slip coverings for cracks – cracked coverings become dangerous when wet.
