Whether it's a sea chest, hatch lock, or cockpit storage compartment – what needs to stay locked will stay locked.

Tip: Occasionally treat the shackle and cylinder with a corrosion protection spray (e.g., PTFE-based) to maintain the smooth operation of the locking mechanism, even with extended use at a berth.
